Are you dealing with Psoriasis???
Or perhaps I should say… Are you plagued with psoriasis? (Now that sounds more like what we go through! Doesn’t it?) I’ve had mild psoriasis for as long as I can remember. As a kid it was a horrible disease to have and being teased by my school chums didn’t make it any easier. I’ve tried everything you could find at the Pharmacy/Drug Store. From TAR shampoo (which really only left me smelling like an old tire) to some sort of rub in liquid accompanied by a pinkish shampoo which left my scalp tingling (not psoriasis free mind you, just tingling). The disease can manifest itself in a variety of different ways: - Red scaly patches of dry skin on the body called psoriatic plaques
- Fingernails and toenails can be affected. This is called psoriatic nail dystrophy
- It can also cause inflammation in the joints. This is called psoriatic arthritis
What Are The Symptoms?
The psoriatic plaques are characterized by patches of red inflamed skin with a rapid and excessive skin production, which creates the scaly white or silverish flaking. Many people will have it in their scalp, elbows, knees and genitals. Some people who have psoriasis also wind up suffering from depression, due to the chronic nature of this disease.
What can be done?
Well, for my mild symptoms, I recently tried some shampoo that was supplemented with Tea Tree Oil. Now, on its own, it didn’t SOLVE my problem, but accompanied by a Melaleuca Oil enriched moisturizing cream…I got great results! Mind you, I’m not claiming that I’m cured. But I am symptom free…which if you ask me is pretty close to the same thing! It was great being able to scratch my head and not have to rub off the flakes, or sponge up the weird liquid that used to ooze out. Oh and the redness is gone too! It is a great feeling not having to worry about my scalp flaking off, because it does get pretty embarrassing. Sadly I’m one of those guys who generally stops taking his medication when I start feeling better. You guessed it! Once I was symptom free, I stopped treating my scalp (I know better, I really do!) and a couple of weeks later I had to start all over again. But, in no-time, I was symptom free again. Did you get that last line…it took a solid two weeks for the symptoms to return! I was amazed. I haven’t found anything in stores that has accomplished for me what these 2 products, working together, have. it’s great!
Visitor Testimonial My teenager was diagnosed a few years ago with diffuse psoriasis. It started in the scalp then a couple months later it was on the elbows, then legs and finger nails. Then my sister told me about tea tree oil so I decided to try it in his two medicated shampoos he uses for hair and as a body soap. I put about 15 drops of 100% tea tree oil in both of the shampoos he uses and about a month later there are no signs of psoriasis on his scalp or elbows. He still has a little under the fingernails, if I could only get him to soak his nails in the tea tree oil I bet he could clear that up too. Tea tree oil is the best product around for psoriasis, it beats any prescription the doctors will ever give you.Kathleen B. |
I don’t know if in stores or pharmacy they sell tea tree oil based shampoos or moisturizing cream. But it is worth checking out. Just make sure it contains pure tea tree oil in a sufficient quantity. Anything less really doesn’t do a good job. You could also try supplementing a regular shampoo with tea tree oil, and adding some to a really good moisturizing cream. If you do decide to make your own, follow this guideline.
Psoriasis Treatment Recipe To be effective you will need a minimum of 5% tea tree oil to your shampoo. Adjust upwards if necessary.A simple method is to add tea tree oil as you go along. 10 drops of tea tree oil added to your shampoo every time you take your shower Let it sit 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse.
